The Gustav Rosenberger Memorial Fund (GRMF) is a tribute to Dr Gustav Rosenberger and is related to the World Association for Buiatrics. The last Buiatrics Conference prof. Rosenberger attended was in 1982 in Amsterdam. That meeting was very successful, also from a financial point of view. A, for those days, substantial amount of money was set aside, of which the Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association thought it belonged to the international buiatric community. The Gustav Rosenberger Memorial Fund was born, with the objective to ‘further improve bovine medicine at an international level and to stimulate bovine research in its broadest sense’. To realize that objective, bovine scientists have been awarded by grants and prizes, mainly being young scientists from South America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. During the last ten years grants were offered with a value of approximately € 10.000,- each, to be used for educational and research purposes. The GRMF has been sponsored by several pharmaceutical companies over the years. This year’s grant is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim.
The GRMF provides grants on a yearly base to young and promising veterinarians who:
- Further develop bovine medicine in general
- Come from a country where bovine medicine needs further development, and intend to apply the knowledge obtained in that country
- Work in a specific discipline within bovine medicine that needs further development
The first point is a prerequisite, the second approach is preferred over the third.
The grant is to be used for an educative period of at least 3 months, which is intended to increase the candidates knowledge on bovine veterinary medicine by following courses or doing research.
Candidates for the GRMF grant are veterinarians, working in bovine medicine, and have been graduated no longer than 10 years at the moment they receive the grant. Candidates will send an application form as is presented elsewhere on this website.
The GRMF grant will in even years be presented at the World Buiatric Conference. In odd years it will be presented at a convenient place to be decided on by the GRMF board.
